Functional Sports Nutrition is applying the functional medicine model to sports nutrition.

Athletes and active individuals are under more pressure than ever before to perform at their best. Professional athletes have intensive training programs combined with crammed competition schedules, and recreational athletes are taking on bigger sport challenges along with long workdays and family commitments.

Fatigue and gastrointestinal complaints are the most common presentations of ‘fit’ individuals that reach out to my office, and this is commonly connected to neuroendocrine disruption (ie. adrenal, thyroid, pancreatic and sex hormone dysfunction), anxiety and depression, and autoimmune disease.

Dr. J has over 17 years of sports medicine and functional sports nutrition experience serving athletes and individuals that live an active lifestyle are looking to perform at their best and support their optimal health. His patients include professional, amateur, and recreational strength athletes.

Dr. Jurgelewicz started weight training at Penn State University in 1998 and discovered the sport of Powerlifting in 2009. Dr. J competed in his first Powerlifting meet in 2009.
